Please also note: participants who are required to pay the conference fee but neither pay it by 5 July 2026 nor contact us by email will be automatically deregistered from the conference.

About WACS

The World Association for Chinese Studies (WACS) is an independent, non-profit association with no institutional sponsor — it sustains itself solely through donations. Each year, in changing countries and regions, WACS hosts a World Conference of Chinese Studies bringing together researchers from the People's Republic of China and from all over the world, and it awards travel grants for the best conference contributions by early-career scholars.

Supporting WACS

Through this donation drive you can not only pay your conference fee, but, if you wish, increase the amount voluntarily up to €450. You may also pay a colleague's fee with a higher amount — not everyone has the available payment methods (credit card / PayPal). All funds go directly to the association's work. Every cent is audited every three years by the Bochum-Süd tax office; all audits to date have been positive, and charitable status (Gemeinnützigkeit) is confirmed for the coming years.

⚠️ Please donate only once. Do not, for example, first pay €190 for yourself and then €190 for a colleague — make a single payment (e.g. €380), which you may round up to a maximum of €450.

How to pay — step by step

  1. Click “Pay fee now” above. You arrive on the Volksbank Bochum donation platform (it holds the WACS account).
  2. On the right, under “Support this project”, enter the amount (140 / 190 / up to 450 €; more if paying for a colleague).
  3. Enter first name (given name only — “Wang Jianguo” → “Jianguo”), last name (“Wang”), email (for the receipt), postal address (Pinyin/English), additional info (optional), postal code, city, country.
  4. Choose credit card or PayPal, tick the three checkboxes, click “Donate with Visacard or Mastercard” / “Donate with Paypal”, enter payment details.
  5. A confirmation screen appears and you receive an email with the receipt.
